Beach Stairs

This is a set of stairs leading from the top of a dune to the beach on Lake Superior.  The site is an very fragile dune with sparse vegetation holding it together.  We were very deliberate and careful in our construction methods to preserve the dune and the vegetation on it.

The solution we came up with was to lay 2 long extension ladders on the dune and work entirely from that platform.  The footings and posts were set from the ladder platforms.  The stringers were installed on the posts, again using the ladders.  Once the stringers were on, the ladders were removed and the treads installed.  Railings were the final step.

The end result is a great staircase with minimal impact to the dune.
